Brief info

Born in 1955, Bahawalpur, Afshar Malik graduated in Fine Arts from National college of Arts, Lahore in 1978. He acquired his Higher Diploma in Fine Arts from Slade School of Fine Arts, University College London, UK in 1988. Malik joined National College of Arts as permanent faculty in 1983 and served his alma-mater till 2015 as Associate Professor. His remarkable services and variety of experience is tremendous, for he has always remained instrumental in educational activities at various institutions and private venues since 1978 where he conducted several drawing, painting, lithography and ceramic workshops for children and college students. For many years, he has created several cartoons for various newspapers and magazines along with working as illustrator, designer and visualizer in advertising agencies, NGOs, Pakistan Television and for children story books. In 1993, he also conceptualized, produced and directed ‘Dhoon Dhoon’- a 22 minutes long audio video puppet film about the environment for WWF. Malik was part of a seven-day artist workshop in Marvi, Mumbai, India in 2005 and attended Vasl artist workshop in Karachi in 2003. Along with many national and international exhibitions, he has recently exhibited his work in a collateral with Lahore Biennale 02 and before that in Karachi Biennale 2019. Many of his site-specific works are in various private collections. Malik lives and works in Lahore, Pakistan.
